Cat-Eyed Cutie: Like it. Love it. Buying it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of good food, great family and super Black Friday shopping deals. I was fortunate enough to have a whole lot of all three!

After fighting the crowds on Black Friday, just about drowning in Cyber Monday emails and focusing my attention to gift-giving rather than purchasing, we’ll consider this round of like it, love it, buying it more of a wish list than an actual potential purchase.

I’ve been flat out lusting over cat-eye sunglasses as of late. I love any type of eyewear that makes a statement and this retro style doesn’t disappoint.

Like it.

This Tory Burch version comes in several fun colors, including red, tortoise, tan and gray, pictured below. These are a more rounded cat-eye shape, so they are a perfect option for anyone who likes the look but isn’t ready for a more exaggerated look.

Tory Burch Cat’s Eye Sunglasses from Nordstrom | $149

Love it.

I am absolutely obsessed over these Dior Retro Sunglasses and Dior’s Cat’s Eye Sunglasses. I spotted them on Atlantic-Pacific a few months ago and haven’t stopped pining over them since. Absolute perfection.

Dior Retro Sunglasses from Nordstrom | $280

Buying it.

At the price of two lattes, I think I might be able to spring for these sunnies. They don’t have quite the exaggerated shape of the other two options, but when compared to triple digit prices, I think I can make do!

Juicy Couture Georgetown

Last week, I made way over to the newly remodeled Juicy Couture in Georgetown. I wear Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy perfume religiously, and have done so since it came out years ago. However, despite my brand loyalty via perfume, I’ve never purchased a single clothing item. I typically associate Juicy Couture with velour track suits complete with a blinged out “Juicy” on the rear.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the selection available at the new store, which is now two stories. The second floor is reminiscent of any woman’s dream closet, with the clothing to boot. More than a few things caught my eye:

1. Bow Tank $78 |  2. Betty Cocktail Dress $328 | 3. Luxe Diamond Cardigan $198  | 4. Peek-A- Boo Minidress $178 | 5. Snow Angel Dress $398 | 6. Ziger Sweater Coat $146.99 – on sale from $298! | 7. Tuxedo Romper $248 | 8. Viva la Juicy $90

My favorite is the Ziger Sweater Coat which looked so incredibly warm and comfy for fall and winter! I’m really digging the Tuxedo Romper, too. Rompers are not an easy item to purchase since you can run the risk of looking like you belong in elementary school if you aren’t careful. This option is classy and the slim leg keeps it from being too 70s. I’d love to pair it with a pair of bold heels, a glitter blazer and a statement necklace for a holiday party. Or with the Ziger Sweater Coat for a more casual look. Clearly, I need this sweater…

Make sure you check out the new store or do some online perusing. All sale items are an additional 30 percent off!

Black Boot Best Bets

I spent the greater part of my life in Florida, so you can image why I am not a huge fan of cold weather. The one saving grace of frigid temperatures is the necessity of boots. Cold weather is an excuse for an expanding boot selection and I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of flat black mid-calf boots.

I refuse to by boots online because they never end up fitting right, and I’ve yet to find the perfect pair in-store. So, I thought I’d pick out a few favorites in hopes of finding them in a store on Black Friday. GASP, yes, I am one of those crazies who shops on Black Friday.

Here is my black boot roundup:

1) Nine West Bleaker ($83.30) |  2) Pink and Pepper Rev ($59.99) | 3) Mossimo Kamara Engineer Boot ($34.99) | 4) Frye Carson Tab Short Bootie ($328) 5) Bucco Vina Ankle Boots ($69.99) 6) DV By Dolce Vita Zip Short Motorcycle Boots ($149)

My favorite pair is the Dolce Vita motorcycle boot, but the Mossimo pair from Target looks pretty promising for $34.99. I’ll have to inspect that pair in person to make sure they are good quality. Of course, I love the Frye boots as well, but I’m not wiling to spend more than $300 on a pair of boots that won’t necessarily be a staple in my wardrobe.

A few of these pairs are on sale, which is tempting, but I think I’ll try my luck next week, in-store to make sure they’re the perfect fit. Black Friday, here I come!

Peplum Edition: Like it, love it, buying it.

I’ve got a major obsession of the peplum variety. I purchased the first item of my quickly expanding peplum wardrobe a few months go and haven’t stopped since. I get complemented on it all. the. time.

Peplum is flattering on ANYone. It complements curves and creates them where there are nonoe. Which is precisely why this week’s like it, love it, buying it is all about the peplum.

Like it.

Lace and peplum is lovely and ladylike, an ideal combination. However, the black lace adds a little edge and keeps this top from being too sweet.

Hello, holiday season! This top was made for a celebration, holiday or not! Pair it with skinny jeans or a black mini and some fabulous heels and you’re good to go.

Vince Camuto Metallic Dot Jacquard Blouse | $99

I saw this top in Anthropologie yesterday and had to snatch it up. It comes in three color combos: black and white (pictured below), gray and white and kelly green and navy. I opted for the gray.

Anthropologie Sweetheart Peplum Top | $58.00

Which one is your favorite? Time to jump on the peplum train, ladies!

Election Day Edition: Like it. Love it. Buying it.

In honor of Election Day 2012, I thought I’d put a patriotic spin on my weekly like it, love it, buying it post. If you haven’t done so yet, make sure you get out there and vote, people! We are lucky to have the privilege of democracy, so don’t take it for granted.

And, now on to more trivial, red, white and blue retail-related things.

As we’re quickly saying goodbye to Fall temperatures (did we ever say hello?), I’m on the search for some long-sleeve shirts to round out my wardrobe and keep me warm. I’m digging the feminine details and of course, the sub $20 price tag!

Forever 21 Keyhole Blouse | $19.80

Love it.

I’m a sucker for sheer. This dress manages the delicate balance between sweet and sexy. The sheer, polka dot sleeves and sweetheart neckline send this little number to the top of my wish list.

Madewell Parkstroll Dress | $168

Buying it.

Every once in awhile, a piece of statement jewelry is worth the extra expense. I usually try to keep accessories purchases under $50, but this necklace is simply stunning. At 60 percent off, it really is a bargain and has the versatility to add a dose of glitz to a casual outfit or steal the show with a simple cocktail dress.

Hat’s Off to You

Hats are making a comeback! Thanks to the Royal Wedding and the Kate Middleton-mania that ensued, headwear is now back on the “hot” list – and not just the good old fashioned baseball cap. I love hats of all kinds. The right hat can make an outfit effortlessly chic and conceal even the worst of bad hair days. I invested in a straw fedora or two for summer, have quite the baseball cap selection and am now searching for a wide-brimmed hat for fall.

After some searching, my front-runners are:

Fall hats

I’m leaning towards the Gap hat. The navy color will go with almost anything and brown leather accents up the aesthetic, making it look like it costs much more than a mere $30.

As fabulous as the Rag and Bone hat is, I simpy can’t swing (or justify) the $200 expense.

What is your favorite?

Bag Lady Edition: Like it. Love it. Buying it.

A few things are happening that are leading me to the conclusion that I’d like to treat myself to something special. Whether these are valid reasons for my purchasing a little something special, I don’t pretend to know (or care), but they do sound good:

  1. Fall is coming here and my summer bag is waiting patiently to go into hibernation.
  2. There are some really, really fabulous bags out there that need a new home.
  3. I am running a marathon on Sunday (yikes!). I think 26.2 miles warrants something special besides the foil blanket and finisher medal, as fab as they are.

Some of the bags I have my eye on for my weekly edition of like it, love it, buying it:

Coach is introducing some fresh new shapes to their collection this fall, as well as some classic throwbacks. This one can work as a cross body or a tote. It comes in gray, yellow, navy, green and pink (pictured below) and is a great size for carrying the essentials and not everything but the kitchen sink.

Coach Leather Colorblock New Willis | $298

Love it.

There are just so many things to heart about this tote. The hunter green, the black accents, the ladylike shape coupled with some edgy hardware. Sigh, perfection. I’m jonesing for some hunter green and oxblood colored pieces in my fall wardrobe and this little lady just might meet the mark!

Kate Spade Post Street Little Nadine | $428

Buying it.

OK, let’s get real. I’m not actually buying this, unless I happen to win some prize money from this marathon, considering it’s a hefty pricetag, but I couldn’t resist sharing it with all of you. I’m a Marc by Marc Jacobs girl at heart. How gorgeous and perfect for Fall/Winter?

Bejeweled by Baublebar

Anyone who knows me will confirm my undying love for accessories. I firmly believe that a statement necklace, colorful scarf or an awesome arm party will make or break an outfit. Coco Chanel’s rule about removing one accessory before you leave the house falls on deaf ears, which is why I am dying over the jewelry site Baublebar.

This fashionably fabulous site offers all types of jewelry (rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces) at varying price points. The best part? Every piece is seriously stylish. The worst part? I want every. single. one. Starting with these:

Deco Myrna Necklace | $38
Peri Quad Strand | $38
Marie Fruit Bowl Bib Necklace | $42
Love Bracelet | $22
Pink Bow Stud Earrings | $88

Baublebar collaborates with some pretty design-savvy folks, including the creator of Atlantic-Pacific and Ninia Garcia to name a few. If you like what you see, be sure to sign up to get exclusive updates on deals and specialty discounted “buried baubles.”

Ankle Jeans

With booties being in season, I’m on the hunt for ankle length denim. All of my jeans, both colored and denim, are on the longer side since I am only 5′ 5.” They work just fine for my typical daily footwear of flats, but with booties, the bottom of the jean tends to bunch up and look incredibly awkward when paired with a bootie.

I prefer the ankle length styles with my work pants, so I think I need to hike up the hemline on my denim too. Here are some of the options that have caught my eye while perusing online.

These AG jeans are the perfect burgundy color for fall.

AG Stevie Ankle Color Jeans from Anthropologie | $158

Current/Elliott jeans for 40% off? Hard to say no to!

Current/Elliott Skinny Ankle Jeans at Nordstrom | On sale for $105.90

Paige is one of my absolute favorite denim brands. I’ve owned a few pairs and love the quality. However, like most designer jeans, they run long. For instance, these jeans have a 30″ inseam. For someone on the shorter side, like me, you’ll want to aim for a 27″ inseam and zippered jeans are near (if not completely) impossible to hem.

Paige Eve Skinny Ankle Zip Jeans at Nordstrom | $189

These come in a range of colors, from yellow to teal to magenta and about half of the price of any of the other options I’ve seen so far. The inseam for the regular is 28″ and the petite is 26″ – sound about perfect to me! The only downside? They don’t carry them in-store in the DC-metro area, so I won’t be able to judge the fit until they come in the mail.

Nordstrom Exclusive Blue Essence Brand Skinny Twill Ankle Jeans | $88

I plan on scouting out these options, as well as some of my other favorite stores to see what’s out there. Tips and suggstions are welcome!

My brain is on booties. There are so many gorgeous pairs out there right now. Heeled, platformed, western, tied and two-toned. There are just too many to wear, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try!

As you might have guessed, this week’s like it, love it, buying it is all about the bootie.

Like it.

Nine West shoes are always a good bargain. The price is usually right and the quality, in my experience, has always been good. The color is just the right shade of gray to be a perfect neutral and the heel height is moderate enough to be comfortable to wear all day.

Nine West Bleaker Bootie | $119

Love it.

Glitter + a great camel colored bootie? I’m in heaven. I saw these in a magazine back in August but thought they might look cheap. Then I saw them in person and they are surprisingly high quality. A friend of mine purchased them and raves about them. At just over $50, you really can’t go wrong.

Wanted Dressage Bootie | $54.97 at DSW

Black and tan, one of my favorite color combos. These booties will go with everything in my wardrobe. I’m all about comfort, so a 2 inch heel is about as high as I’ll go for a more casual boot I plan to wear during the day. They are just a little bit country, little bit rock’n roll and a whole lotta perfect.
